Masters Project 2024
The SPED Spot: |
When you become an educator you take an unspoken oath to not only provide the best instruction you can to your students but to never stop learning
How can this resource help me?
It is important to remember that Special Education is not a place, it is a service. Special Education services can be offered in many different settings including pushing into the general education setting and being pulled out of the general education setting. There are many services that are offered through special education and vary based on student needs. There are so many different components of special education and it can often be confusing for those who are not part of the inner workings. I have had many colleagues express their frustrations of their lack of knowledge of special education when they are working with students with IEPs and students from the SDC who mainstream into their classes. |
As the years pass by, the education system continues to grow. Countries across the world are educating more students with disabilities in regular/general education classrooms. America is also making this shift in the classroom but research studies have shown that general education teachers have not been properly trained and do not feel confident in teaching in a full inclusion model. This webpage aims to provide information and resources for general education teachers, parents, special education teachers, or anyone else who has a part in a child's education that wants to know more about special education. |
Real Responses from General Educators to this question:
Do you want to know more about Special Education, IEPs, and how to support students with IEPs in your classroom, why?
1st grade teacher"Yes, to help every student be successful we must understand their learning capabilities and how to accommodate for them, figuring out new strategies for many different learning capabilities only helps a teacher grow as well as the present or future students"
|
2nd grade teacher"I want to know more about supporting my students with IEPs because I don't have many options or ideas and don't have time to search things out and develop plans and ideas for my classroom."
|
4th grade teacher"Yes. There is so much data that is thrown out to monitor student learning, but sometimes it feels that the individual student isn't being accounted for. More training on special needs would help alleviate some of this. Instead of focusing on what they are not able to do, focus on what they are able to do based on their individual needs a disabilities."
