Arissa Stamper
B.A Psychology / Education Specialist Moderate-Severe / M.Ed Special Education Candidate
My name is Arissa Stamper. I am a Masters student at Teachers College of San Joaquin in California. I have been teaching in a Special Day Classroom for students with Autism for 4 years. I started my teaching career in the midst of the COVID pandemic with my first 12 weeks of teaching ever being virtual. As I myself have grown as a teacher I have learned how important collaboration is with not only my special education teacher colleagues but with my general education ones as well. My school district is one of the many that is making the shift to using a co-teaching model for students with mild/moderate disabilities to be included in the classroom with general education peers. Through collaboration with my general education colleagues I have l realized that they are not ready to provide education to students with disabilities full time in the general education classroom. Through my Master's program courses I have based several projects on this idea and my colleagues confirmed that they do not feel prepared for this shift and would not only like more training but an easy to access resource to answer questions along the way.
